DR. STEPHEN LUND CHOSEN AS AN AMBASSADOR TO TRAVEL TO ASIA

New York, NY (February 27, 2008) – Stephen Lund, MD, Co-Director of the Sleep Disorders Institute and Director of Fellowship Training, has been chosen to travel to Cambodia and Vietnam this March, as an ambassador involved in the scientific exchange of ideas regarding psychiatric and sleep-related issues.

This trip, sponsored by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), is intended to encourage cultural exchange among physicians.   “We know very little about the prevalence of sleep disorders in Cambodia and Vietnam, and less about the best treatment approaches for patients in that region,” said Dr. Lund.  “I am confident that I will gain a richer understanding of sleep medicine through this visit, and I hope to make equal contributions to the work of my colleagues overseas,” he added.

Along with being a Co-Director at the Sleep Disorders Institute, Dr. Lund also holds the academic position of an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons.  A board certified physician in psychiatry and sleep medicine, Dr. Lund obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico.  He completed his internship and residency in psychiatry at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, during which he served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Lund has published in areas such as sleep medicine, depression, and delirium.
